I have several comments about the look and feel of this image. I like the way the town is skewed and kinda Cubism in feeling. I am wondering what the dragon would look like if you did him similarly, with more angles and less curves. an example might be the dragon Smog from the animated television version of "the hobbit" http://www.thehobbit-movie-buzz.com/wp-content/uploads/hobbit/large_smaug_dragon_from_thehobbit_animated-r7nn9rsi.jpg
The main concern I have is about the color use and the lighting. The colors for the dragons red are way too bright and are blowing out the inked red line color. Tone down the color so it does not vibrate so much. On a television screen it would bleed like crazy. The green is too bright too. Think about a color palette for not just this one shot but for the entire production so that you know the colors and the shots are going to work together correctly. Or the easy and very effective way to handle color is to limit the palette to just a few colors. The lighting is inconsistent the foreground is lit as if the light was coming from behind the camera, the mid ground like a light was place above the two bright green hills and the background as if the sun has set. It needs to be consistent even if you have several light sources you need to determine where they are located and make sure that all the elements are working together with the lighting. This will pull the picture together and unify it. Best wishes! -Brad
Very good observastions by Brad! I would reinforce what he said about the dragon color and tonality... the darks need to be darker and you should probably add a hilite or 2. That will give it better tonal range
Resting from the previous battle I had last night, with the dragon i had to slay with my tablet pen. I am currently searching for my next victory. I am also very innovative in my methods and love to find and learn new ways to challenge myself. Art and animation has always been a passion of mine, and heading into my senior year at the best school in the country ( Kendall College of Art and Design) I am all the more excited to begin a career doing what I love.
